Projects

A glimpse into some of the different projects that make up my creative process as an illustrator and the stories behind them.

Folklore illustrations

Though very different from my other work, my folklore illustrations aim to explore the connection between people and nature portraying the stories of people from a slightly alternative perspective through bringing together themes of spirituality, nature and folklore. This passion project began when reflecting on the escape that nature offers us during dark times, I have always found it fascinating that no matter what happens, nature is always there and somehow can always offer us a sense of peace that other parts of life cannot. I believe the connection between nature and people to be a very important part of life, however I feel it is often overlooked. Therefore I wanted to create a series of work that could tell this narrative and offer a sense of escape.

Dandelion and dreams poetry book project

An Illustrated poetry book project I produced in collaboration with my sister (the writer) exploring themes of emotions and experiences of life through imaginative  dreamlike concepts. This project is one that’s very personal to both of us as it’s based on our personal experience with mental health, memory and grief. Throughout all of my illustrations I tend to always be drawn to portraying themes of time, memory and loss, but for this project this portrayal was particularly amplified due to the surreal poetic nature of the illustrations.

The boy and the blue bear children's book

A short symbolic children’s story Exploring loss, love and grief through a child's perspective. throughout this project I emphasised the use of colour to narrate  the journey of emotions the boy experiences throughout the story.  Particularly focusing on minimalistic form to amplify moments of the boys journey.

Comic spreads

Each one of my comic spread Explores the emotional experiences of life that we go through as people Due to my love for graphic novels and complex characters I enjoy creating my own comic spreads that explore the rawness of reality. When coming across a particular story I love the process of feeling  truly connected with it. This is what I aim to within each of my spreads, as I create slightly ambiguous narratives that can be left up to interpretation.

Sequential images

a big part of my practise is to create  thought provoking illustrations that reflect philosophical ideas, in light of this throughout my creative process I have grown to really enjoy forming sequential images that i can use within a range of projects. I think my love for these style illustrations stems from my passion for storytelling ideas of time and memory. Often I use these style illustrations to make up bigger parts of my practise such as boo projects, zines or comic spread
